Privacy & data notes for IceLens Stories
IceLens Stories is a media-style project about under-ice video, sound and episodes. We do not run user accounts or public maps of exact fishing spots, and we try to keep the amount of personal data we handle very small.
This page explains in plain language what kind of information may be processed when you browse the site, contact us or share your own footage and stories.
1. Types of data we may handle
IceLens Stories is mainly a static portfolio-like site. The data we may touch falls into a few narrow groups.
Browsing information
- Basic technical details such as browser type, screen size and operating system.
- Approximate region or country, not precise GPS coordinates.
- Pages visited and general interaction patterns (for example, which sections are opened, time spent on a page).
This kind of data is typically aggregated and used to understand which rigs, timelines or episodes people tend to read and replay.
Contact & messages
- Your name or nickname and email address when you contact us.
- The contents of your message, including descriptions of sessions, episodes or technical questions.
We use this information only to answer you, discuss under-ice capture setups or coordinate potential use of your material in our stories.
Shared media & stories
- Under-ice clips, stills, sound recordings and logbook notes that you voluntarily send to us.
- Context you provide, such as depth, ice conditions and tackle details.
We treat this as editorial material. It is only used in public if we have your clear permission and, where needed, with locations obscured or generalized.
2. Cookies, local storage & analytics
The site may use light-weight analytics or technical cookies to keep things running smoothly and understand how people move between sections.
Technical cookies
Some cookies or local storage entries may be required so that navigation, language choices or simple preferences (for example, whether animations are muted) behave consistently while you browse.
These elements are not used to build advertising profiles and are usually short-lived.
Analytics
If analytics is enabled, it is used to see which pages are visited, approximate regions of visitors and rough trends over time. We are more interested in which kinds of episodes are helpful than in who exactly you are.
Where possible, data is aggregated or pseudonymised, and we do not attempt to identify individual anglers or pinpoint exact spots on the map.
3. How we use shared media & stories
Footage and stories sent to IceLens Stories are handled as editorial material, not as generic user-generated content piles.
Editorial & educational use
- Showcasing interesting fish behaviour under the ice.
- Demonstrating how different rigs, lights and camera angles work.
- Building timeline and logbook examples for workshops, articles or talks.
Whenever we publish your material, we aim to credit you in a way you are comfortable with or keep you anonymous if you prefer.
Respect for locations & people
- We do not attach exact GPS coordinates to shared episodes.
- Faces, license plates or other personal identifiers are avoided, blurred or cropped out whenever possible.
If you notice material that reveals more than you intended, please contact us so we can adjust, replace or remove it.
4. How long we keep data
We try not to keep more than we reasonably need for the project to function and grow.
Contact & correspondence
Email exchanges and notes from conversations may be kept for as long as we actively collaborate or as long as is required by applicable law. Old threads that are no longer relevant may be archived or deleted over time.
Media & logbook material
Clips, frames and stories you share and that become part of the project can be kept as long as they remain part of the public archive or internal reference logbook. If you later withdraw consent, we will aim to remove or anonymise them where reasonably possible.
We apply reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the integrity of media files and communication records, but no online system can be guaranteed to be perfectly secure.
5. Your choices & rights
Depending on where you live and which laws apply, you may have rights such as access, correction, deletion or restriction of your personal data.
Typical options
- Ask what personal data related to you we hold, if any.
- Request correction of inaccurate contact details or notes.
- Request removal of specific clips, stills or references that clearly relate to you.
How to reach us
If you have questions about these notes or want to exercise any applicable rights, please contact us via the email listed on the site footer and mention “Privacy” in the subject line so we can route your message faster.
This page is intended as a clear explanation of how the project handles data, not as formal legal advice. For binding requirements in your jurisdiction, please consult a qualified professional.
6. Changes to these privacy notes
The project may evolve — new sections, tools or collaboration formats can appear over time. When that happens, this page may be updated to reflect how new features interact with your data.
When changes are significant, we aim to highlight them on this page and adjust the “last updated” line at the bottom.
